1834 March 21 George was born in Stockton-on-Tees, Co.Durham

1841 census, age 7 living with James Flounders and Elizabeth Orton and his sister Margaret age 9 in Hutton Rudby, N.Yorkshire.
note : Mr Flounders, was a farmer, cousin of Benjamin Flounders philanthropist and one of the founders of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.

1848 (abt) started his apprenticeship as an ironfounder/moulder (probably at Timothy Hackworth's locomotive works)

1850 July 7  ref only. Timothy Hackworth died.

1851 census age 17, at home with mother. Enumerated as a moulder. (On the day of the census his father was in engine-drivers' lodgings at Wolverton, Bucks.)

1860 age 26, moulder, marries Mary Waite age 21. George's address, New Shildon. His father William Brown, Inspector of Railway Engines.  Mary's address, Fore Bondgate, Bishop Auckland. Her father was Reginald Waite, deceased.

1861 census, age 27, moulder, living with wife Mary, their child Mary Ann (6 months) and Anne Waite, mother-in-law. Address, Old Shildon

1871 census age 37, wife Mary missing, children present Mary Ann, Hannah and George.

1873 Sept 3 (family bible) his wife Mary died, only 33.

1880 November 10, George died, only 46 (family bible entry)
